Langtolang is a free dictionary. You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name, e-mail address or any other personal details. This page explains what is stored when you use the site and which cookies are involved.
Like almost every website, our web server keeps a standard access log: the IP address of the request, the page requested, the time, the browser identification string and the referring page. These logs are used for security, for blocking abusive automated traffic, and for aggregate traffic statistics. They are kept for a limited time as part of normal log rotation and are not shared with anyone.
The word you type and the two languages you select are used to answer your query. When a search returns no result, the word and the language pair are recorded, without your IP address or any other identifier, so that the most requested missing entries can be added first. Searches that do return a result are not stored beyond the server log described above.
The dictionary may store your last selected language pair in two small first-party cookies (selectFrom and selectTo) so that the same languages are preselected on your next visit. They contain nothing but the language names.
If you write to us through the contact form, the name, e-mail address and message you enter are stored together with the IP address the message came from, so that we can read it, answer it and block abuse. They are used for nothing else and are not passed on. The security code shown on the form is generated on this site; no third-party captcha service is involved.
The word lists and alphabet pages have a “Report a mistake” button. A report stores the page and the entry you chose, what you selected and wrote, whether you ticked “native speaker”, the e-mail address if you chose to give one, and the IP address and browser identification string the report came from. We use this only to check and correct the entry and to block abuse. Reports are not published and are not passed on; e-mail addresses are used only to reply to you.
Result pages show advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings or at aboutads.info. How Google uses data from sites that show its ads is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. No ads are shown on the home page or on the word lists.
Apart from Google's advertising described above, no third-party scripts, analytics services or social media widgets are loaded on this site, and no data is sold or passed on to anyone.
